self build mortgages About... Self Build

About... Mortgages can access a wide range of specialist mortgage loans for people interested in financing a self build project or renovations and conversions to existing properties.

How can I get a self-build mortgage?

Most High Street lenders will not be interested in helping you obtain a "self build mortgage" and will often reject your application "out-of-hand" because of its non standard nature. About Mortgages however, can advise you on several self build mortgage schemes available from top lending sources at competitive interest rates, tailored for the independent self builder who requires flexible finance.

How much can I borrow?

We can arrange the self build mortgage to run along side your current mortgage during the build. Allowing you to stay in your own home while building you new self built home.

You can borrow up to 95% of the land purchase, 95% of the build costs, payments are released in upfront stage payments in advance when you need them, and there are no interim valuations required.

What about tax relief on a self build mortgage?

If your land costs £125,000 or less, you will not pay any stamp duty and you can reclaim the VAT on your building materials from a VAT registered supplier*

Your home may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments on your mortgage.

You can choose how we are paid: pay a fee, usually 0.5% of the loan amount; or we can accept commission from the lender.
